Malaysia’s 100 Leading Graduate Employers for 2011 are Revealed

Kuala Lumpur, 4 November 2011: The country’s 100 leading graduate employers for 2011 were revealed yesterday evening at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Kuala Lumpur.

Over 12,000 students and fresh graduates took part in the trendence Graduate Barometer 2011 – Malaysian Edition this year. The results of the survey determined the ranking of Malaysia’s 100 Leading Graduate Employers for 2011.

Conducted by GTI Media and powered by trendence, Europe’s leading research institute, the annual online survey was held over a period of six months from March to September. Among other things, the survey recorded a higher degree of participation compared with last year – gathering responses from 71 universities in 2011 compared to 66 universities in 2010. It also marked a greater level of awareness and recognition of the Malaysia’s 100 Leading Graduate Employers brand amongst both respondents and graduate employers.

Most important of all, the survey sheds light on the latest graduate recruitment trends in Malaysia. In 2011, the top characteristics that students and fresh graduates looked for in a first employer included training opportunities, professional/career development and personal development. These findings bring to light the shift in the demands and expectations of students and graduates from last year, as the 2010 respondents chose promotion opportunities, work-life balance and job security as some of the factors behind employer attractiveness.

This year, the Big Four professional services firms topped the list with PwC as Graduate Employer of the Year. Ernst & Young, which was the first runner up in 2009 and winner in 2010, finished as first runner up followed by KPMG and Deloitte as second runner up and third runner up, respectively. PwC is the first organisation to be named winner twice in the history of the awards in Malaysia.

The sector winners in 2011 are as follows:

  • Accounting & Professional Services – Ernst & Young
  • Banking & Financial Services – Maybank
  • ICT & Multimedia – IBM Malaysia
  • Insurance – Great Eastern Life Assurance
  • Telecommunications – DiGi Telecommunications
  • Broadcasting/Media – MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems (ASTRO)
  • Leisure, Travel & Hospitality – Genting Malaysia
  • Consulting – PwC
  • Property & Construction – Sime Darby
  • Energy/Oil & Gas/Utilities – Shell Malaysia.

The Malaysia’s 100 Leading Graduate Employers Awards 2011, which was officiated by Deputy Minister of Human Resources, Yang Berhormat Senator Dato’ Maznah Mazlan, marked the fourth successful event of its kind to be held in Malaysia. Similar award evenings have since become annual affairs in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, and Singapore.

This year’s full results will be published in the Malaysia’s 100 Leading Graduate Employers 2011 directory, which will be distributed at top universities in Malaysia and abroad in 2012. To read the 2010 edition which contains findings from last year’s survey, log on to www.malaysias100.com.
